Home Sweet Home

We made it back to Des Moines late Monday evening. It was really hard to leave Jed, but it feels nice to be in our own home. There were definitely many aspects of it that I missed!

Charlotte did well on the flights home. She fussed a little on our first flight, but that was just because she was tired and she quickly fell asleep. She pretty much slept through the second flight as well. Of course our second flight was delayed, but not by much. I guess delays are pretty much expected now.

I’ll do a separate post on my experience traveling with a baby (and what I packed/used), but for this post I thought it would be fun to show a recap of our week in Texas with (mostly) pictures!

We had a great time visiting Jed and we made sure to take advantage of every minute!

Our Texas Adventure

Thursday (Oct 10): Arrived in San Angelo, Texas. Here’s a picture of Jed and Charlotte. He shaved his mustache per my request as I think it makes him look older and I’m not a fan of it (as he knows).

Friday (Oct. 11): Jed had training so Charlotte and I hung out at the apartment and caught up on some needed sleep. We also ventured out to Wal-Mart to pick up a lightweight stroller to have for our trip (and since we knew we would need one in the near future anyways). We ended up getting the Jeep Cherokee Sport Stroller which worked out great! We ended up going out for sushi for dinner (yum!).

Saturday (Oct. 12): Stopped at Donutopia before hitting the road to go to San Antonio. I have to say, they have the BEST donuts I’ve had to date. We got an assortment which included fruity pebble glazed, red velvet and blueberry. SO GOOD! It took us about 3 hours to get to San Antonio and Charlotte pretty much slept the whole time. We went straight to SeaWorld, which was why we wanted to go to San Antonio in the first place. Afterwards, we went to Rudy’s for some BBQ and then went looking for a hotel to stay in for the night. Note: When traveling with a baby, call ahead to see if they have availability. We didn’t think hotels would be full, but the first one we went to was. Luckily we found one close by that wasn’t! We stayed in the rest of the night as we were all tired from the heat and excitement of SeaWorld.

Sunday (Oct. 13): We had breakfast at the hotel and then headed for downtown San Antonio to visit The Alamo and the Riverwalk. We stopped at a restaurant on the Riverwalk where we had some fresh guacamole and salsa and Jed and I split an awesome margarita! It started to rain so we decided it would be best to head back to the truck and start our trek back to San Angelo. We did stop in Fredericksburg on the way back, which is an awesome little German town with lots of character. We had lunch there and walked down main street to check out some of the unique shops.

Monday (Oct. 14): Jed had the day of because of Columbus Day, so we decided to just chill at the apartment in San Angelo since we had a long weekend. We went to the grocery store to stock up for the week and went out to dinner at The Grill.

Tuesday (Oct. 15): Jed had training, so Charlotte and I hung out at the apartment. Jed made dinner at the apartment and we just stayed in an enjoyed being together as a family.

Wednesday (Oct. 16): More of the same during the day. We ventured to Wal-Mart again to pick up a few items). We went to eat that night at Cork & Pig Tavern. They have AWESOME pizza. They also apparently do put baby in the corner (yes, that was a Dirty Dancing reference) as we were seated in the way back corner. I wonder if it was because we had a baby? Charlotte was good for the most part.

Thursday (Oct. 17): Jed had to stay a little late for PT at the base, so we had dinner at the apartment. This was also my younger brother’s 21st birthday!

Friday (Oct. 18): More of the same during the day. We picked up Chinese food for dinner.

Saturday (Oct. 19): San Angelo was having their first Riverfest downtown, so we decided to see what it was all about. It was really nice. They had tons of activities for kids and families including a carnival, canoe races, a 5K, art exhibits and so forth. We met up with some friends that are also in training and walked along the river to see everything. Then we ventured downtown to check out the stores and have lunch. We spotted Elvis while we were walking!

Sunday (Oct. 20): Sunday was football day. I miss having Jed around to watch the games with 😦 We are in a Fantasy Football league, so it makes it even more fun to watch the games (at least for me). I also had to pack while Jed was around the help watch Charlotte. So it was a quiet day together.

Monday (Oct. 21): Jed had training so Charlotte and I hung out and got everything ready to go. We had to head to the airport right when Jed got back, but we were able to get a couple of photos over lunch with Jed in his blues (since he has to wear them every Monday). We got back to Des Moines around 10:30 at night.

Charlotte has definitely been changing quickly. While in Texas she rolled from her tummy to her back for the first time and started to roll to her side (a lot!). She also started to hold her head up while on her tummy and look around. Huge accomplishments! We also tried to take some family photos, so enjoy this random assortment of photography (and ignore the bra straps and burp clothes)!

This week continues to be busy with appointments and catching up from being gone. We had so much fun in Texas and we miss Jed so much (and the nice weather!). He’ll be back in a couple of weeks though for Veteran’s Day and then for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so all things for us to look forward to.
